John’s work encompasses most family private client issues, but he specialises in the needs of older individuals. This includes the preparation of wills, estate and succession planning, trust creation and administration and executries.

John is very experienced in dealing with adult incapacity issues and specialises in the preparation of powers of attorney. He also offers expert advice on guardianship, intervention and access to funds orders. Particular areas of interest in this sensitive and challenging area include care home fees, challenges to wills, legal and prior rights claims, contentious trust and executries problems, cross-border estate work and the international aspects of succession law.

John brings the benefits of his considerable experience to conferences and seminars, speaking on topics such as ‘the family home’, care home fees and Powers of Attorney. He is a member of the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners and was a tutor on the private client course for the Diploma in Legal Practice at Edinburgh University.

Before becoming a solicitor, John worked in a traditional retail and trade furniture business. He has a keen interest in antiques, art and classical music.
