- Trainee Solicitor
I undertook a summer placement with Anderson Strathern in July 2017, before being offered a traineeship for September 2019. My first seat was in Private Client in the Haddington office. This was a great first seat, as I got the opportunity to work with the team on a range of matters, including executry administration and drafting wills and powers of attorney. My second seat was in Commercial Real Estate in Edinburgh, where I undertook transactional based work in all aspects of commercial property developments, from leasing to conveyancing transfers. My third seat was back in Private Client, within a different team where I was involved in the creation and ongoing maintenance of trusts and providing tax advice. My final seat is in Employment, Immigration and Pensions, where I am involved in working with both employees and employers in Employment Tribunal claims and assisting with advice on a range of employment matters. I have found this seat to be very rewarding and look forward to qualifying into this team come September. Additionally, I have been involved in a number of different firmwide activities; helping on large-scale firm-wide projects, organising social events and being a member of the Staff Forum where we meet regularly with senior management to raise any business suggestions or concerns. This gives us an opportunity to influence decisions and priorities for our business.
Overall, my traineeship at Anderson Strathern has been an invaluable experience. The firm ethos has afforded me the opportunity to build strong and lasting relationships with my colleagues and the support and guidance I have received throughout my time here has allowed me to feel confident and excited about qualifying as a solicitor.
