HR Case Consultant - outsourced HR Investigations

Employment, Immigration & Pensions
Edinburgh or Glasgow

The Role

Anderson Strathern’s HR Plus service is a client focused service launched in March 2018, based within our Employment, Immigration & Pensions team. The HR Case Consultant will provide HR support to our commercial clients, leading a portfolio of cases ensuring they are managed to a timely and appropriate conclusion.  The role will focus principally on the management of cases which can be complex and sensitive in nature. You will act as the investigator or, occasionally, support managers in conducting investigations such as disciplinary, attendance, performance, grievance, and complex sickness absence. This is an opportunity for someone who is interested in developing their career in HR or who simply wants to get involved in investigation work.

The role may also involve additional HR services as required by clients, including supporting the full range of internal meetings such as absence management, staff consultation exercises and general HR work.

You will be assisting a variety of clients including larger industrial clients, local authorities, colleges and universities to small businesses with a handful of employees. There will also be opportunities to take part in business development activities, helping to grow the business.

The importance of solid team working will be imperative as there will be a need to work closely with our clients, our employment lawyers and, where appropriate, other colleagues in our full-service law firm.

While we envisage the role being part-time and are seeking an applicant able to work a minimum of 3 days a week, we are flexible and willing to consider applications for full-time employment.  We are open to a flexible working arrangement.

You will be responsible for

  • Attending client sites as required to conduct investigations and hearings, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance management.
  • Preparing witness statements, investigation reports and correspondence.
  • Assisting clients with particular HR projects including TUPE transfers, restructuring exercises and employee engagement activities.
  • Assisting with the creation, introduction and development of HR policies and procedures for clients.
  • Taking guidance from our employment lawyers to manage and mitigate risks for clients.
  • Actively assisting in growing the business through networking and other business activities such as postings on LinkedIn, researching and approaching target clients and promoting the service to your existing contacts and existing clients of the firm.
  • Identify and managing risk effectively for the client and for the firm.
  • Meeting reasonable fee targets.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Experience in HR case management (or other relevant experience).
  • The ability to build professional relationships.
  • Skills and experience relevant to conducting investigations.
  • Ability to manage situations successfully.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Enthusiasm and initiative.
