Solicitor - Public Sector Litigation - NQ to 1PQE - Edinburgh
We are looking for a skilled Litigation Solicitor to join Sarah Phillips and the public sector litigation team within our Dispute Resolution department in Edinburgh.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in providing litigation services to government departments, regulators, and other public bodies. You will handle high-profile, complex, and sensitive cases that directly shape public policy and impact communities across Scotland.
The areas of law are very wide however the core areas are:
- General litigation
- Personal injury
- Property damage
- Fatal Accident Inquiries including deaths in custody
- Health & safety
- Supporting BD initiatives
You will be responsible for:
- Manage a varied caseload of public sector litigation, including statutory appeals, regulatory enforcement, civil claims, and inquiries.
- Provide clear, robust, and timely legal advice to clients across the public sector.
- Draft pleadings, legal submissions, and advisory notes.
- Represent clients before the Scottish courts and tribunals.
- Support senior colleagues in complex cases and contribute to team development.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure legal risk is effectively managed.
What you will need to succeed:
- Qualified Solicitor in Scotland with experience in litigation.
- Strong knowledge of Scottish civil procedure and public law.
- Experience advising or acting for public bodies is highly desirable.
- Excellent drafting, research, and advocacy skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work under pressure.
