The public sector litigation team is led by Sarah Phillips, a Partner in our Dispute Resolution Department and the team comprises of 1 Director, 1 Senior Associate, 1 Senior Solicitor and 2 Solicitors. Two members of the team are accredited specialists in personal injury law.

The team offers a multi-disciplinary practice serving public sector clients and has a wealth of experience assisting public sector clients in fatal accident inquiries and defending personal injury claims. Specifically, the team form part of a new inquiries’ unit, with the focus being on advising and representing organisations, public figures, and individuals. The team has experience in dealing with the highest profile and politically sensitive inquiries in the past few years. The quality and range of work undertaken in the team provides a unique opportunity to solicitors to learn and develop their advocacy skills as the team frequently appear in courts across Scotland. You will work with a friendly and knowledgeable team who strive for collaboration across the board, and who are supportive of policies like remote working and flexible working arrangements.

Senior Associate

The Role will Involve:

  • Managing a varied caseload of personal injury claims (defending – both pre-litigation and litigated).
  • Providing advice and appearing at Fatal Accident Inquiries for public bodies.
  • Regularly appearing in courts across Scotland, in a variety of civil claims.
  • Supervising junior lawyers and contributing to team development.
  • Supporting business development and thought leadership initiatives

 As a Solicitor, you will be expected to:

  • Assist with the delivery of presentations and training to clients and non- clients
  • Strong client relationship and client care skills while delivering high-quality advice
  • An active interest in business development to gain new clients and growing your own caseload
  • Excellent analytical, drafting and advocacy skills.

About You:

  • Qualified solicitor in Scotland with 3 years+ PQE
  • Strong experience in dispute resolution, ideally with public sector exposure.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy and organisational skills
  • A proactive approach to business development
  • Ability to manage complex matters with minimal supervision.
