Senior Solicitor/Associate - Rural Land & Business (Renewable Energy Focus) - Edinburgh

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Solicitor or Associate (2 to 6 years PQE) to join our highly regarded Rural, Land & Business department in our Edinburgh office. Whether you currently work in energy law or have a background in commercial property or rural practice and wish to pivot into renewables, we welcome your application.

Our Team

We are a market leading Rural, Land & Business team comprising more than twenty specialist lawyers (including five accredited by the Law Society of Scotland in agricultural law) with a significant and established market presence and regularly contributes to sector bodies.

We represent the full spectrum of rural clients including land owners and occupiers, individuals (some HNW), funds, institutions, public bodies and charities.

We focus on delivering exceptional client service, support professional development and align with national rural priorities.

The role

You will be involved in a caseload with a renewable energy focus. This role offers a unique chance to work at the intersection of traditional rural practice and the evolving renewable energy sector.

You will advise landowners, developers and investors on a wide range of matters including land transactions, option and lease agreements, grid connection issues, and diversification strategies. The role provides exposure to high-quality work and the opportunity to contribute to Scotland’s clean energy transition.

You will be involved in advising retained estate and landowning clients on commercial leases, options and leases for renewable energy projects across technologies including wind, solar, battery storage, hydro, hydrogen, biogas and emerging innovations.

As a Senior Solicitor/Associate, you will be expected to

  • Provide practical, commercial advice on all aspects of rural property law
  • Undertake security work for commercial lenders
  • Be involved in sales, purchases and leases of estates, forests, farms, natural capital assets and rural development projects
  • Advise on law reform and its impact on clients
  • Collaborate with colleagues across planning, corporate and dispute resolution teams
  • Manage a personal caseload and contributing to business development

About you

  • 2 to 6 years PQE with experience in rural, commercial property or energy law.
  • Strong client focus and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach to business development.
