Neil is a Partner in our Employment Unit and has specialised in employment and discrimination law since qualifying in 1997. He was assumed as a Partner in January 2002 and has served on our Firm's Board since January 2003.
Neil has wide ranging experience of both contentious and non-contentious employment and discrimination law issues. He is the Lead Partner for a number of significant clients, including The University of Edinburgh, Queen Margaret University, Johnson & Johnson Medical Limited (trading as Ethicon) and Rockware Glass Limited.
Neil tends to work as a strategic partner with his employer clients advising on a variety of people and management issues, in addition to handling casework as and when this emerges. Neil has strong experience of successfully managing complex TUPE transfers and managing industrial relations issues within his private and public sector employer client group. He has a reputation for being able to produce practical solutions for his clients in any context.
Neil also advises employee clients and believes that by acting on both sides of the employment relationship he can better serve the needs of his employee and employer clients.
Neil regularly represents clients in Employment Tribunals and Employment Appeal Tribunals (EAT) in Scotland and England. He is also involved in training clients and others, which he does by presenting at seminars and/or working with smaller groups in workshop situations as appropriate. Neil runs in-house training for clients across a wide range of employment law topics and his friendly and accessible approach is much appreciated by a non-lawyer audience.
Neil is a member of the Employment Law Group, the Scottish Discrimination Law Association, the Employment Lawyers Association and The WS Society.
