Anderson Strathern in bolt-on deal with specialist Glasgow legal firm
Anderson Strathern has agreed a bolt-on deal with specialist Glasgow law practice Hardy Macphail that will see Hardy Macphail merge its operations with Anderson Strathern’s Glasgow office. Hardy Macphail has a headcount of 10, including 3 partners, and has a mix of SME and private clients and specialises in litigation, private client, commercial property and residential conveyancing. The firm, which was founded in 1998, operates across Glasgow, the West of Scotland, the Central Belt and Fife.

Anderson Strathern has a longstanding history of combining organic growth with growth by acquisition and in 2016 agreed mergers with Glasgow-based Jeffrey Aitken and Edinburgh-based ADLP. Last December, Anderson Strathern reported increased turnover of £22.8 million and profits up by 10 per cent. Anderson Strathern’s client base includes the Scottish Government, INEOS, Buccleuch Estates, Clyde Gateway and Apex Hotels.
In March, the firm’s Brexit Group released its White Paper – Taking the temperature of Scottish business pre-Brexit – which revealed that many of Scotland’s companies, particularly SMEs, had made little or no plan for Brexit, while a majority of respondents were concerned about the loss of EU staff. The firm’s Brexit Group is actively advising both SMEs and larger organisations as they prepare for a range of Brexit outcomes.
In June, Anderson Strathern was selected as the first Scottish legal firm by the Meritas global network which has a membership of over 180 law firms from over 90 countries worldwide.
