HR Assistant - Edinburgh or Glasgow
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in being organised, reliable and calm in a busy environment to join our HR team.
This role would suit either someone at the start of their career looking to move into HR, or an experienced administrator who enjoys working at pace and keeping things running smoothly. What matters most is your approach – how you organise your day, how you support others, and how you deliver consistently high-quality work.
If you’re someone who can juggle multiple priorities, stay calm under pressure and enjoys finding better ways of doing things, you’ll fit right in.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of our HR function. This is a varied, hands-on position where you’ll be at the centre of activity across the full employee lifecycle. Some of the duties are listed below.
You’ll:
- Manage a wide range of HR administration, ensuring everything is accurate and up to date
- Be a first point of contact for colleague queries, responding in a helpful and professional way
- Support recruitment, onboarding and leaver processes from start to finish
- Maintain and update our HR system (SelectHR), with a strong focus on data accuracy
- Deliver inductions for new starters and conduct follow‑up meetings to support their successful integration into the organisation
- Provide monthly HR reports from SelectHR and other data sources
- Assist the HR Advisers to carry out training on absence management, etc
- Support work experience, summer placement and graduate recruitment programmes
- Assist with Law Society processes
- Maintain the HR sections on the intranet
- Preparing monthly HR updates as required to internal committee
- Preparing monthly HR Newsletter
- Get involved in projects, including policy updates, process improvements and GDPR related work
- Work alongside the Payroll Adviser and assisting in monthly payroll checks for audit purposes
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to tick every box, but you should bring strong administrative skills and the right mindset. We’re particularly interested in people who:
- Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Can manage multiple tasks at once and prioritise effectively
- Stay calm and focused when things are busy or change quickly
- Are comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information
- Have excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Take a proactive approach and look for ways to improve how things are done
- Can work independently but also enjoy being part of a team
- Are willing to learn, develop and get involved
Previous HR and payroll experience is helpful, but not essential.
Why join us?
You’ll be part of a supportive, friendly HR team that works closely together and takes pride in delivering a great service.
There’s plenty of variety in the role, opportunities to get involved in wider projects, and the chance to build your experience and confidence – whether you’re starting out or bringing experience with you.
