Martin Whiteford

Martin is a partner with 20 years’ experience in infrastructure, energy and construction.

He is deeply experienced in commercial contracts across the renewables and construction value chain, advising on construction and engineering, design, supply, transportation, installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning agreements.

He has particular expertise in advising on grid connection, regulatory issues, and procurement strategies and in the drafting, negotiation and approval of development and funding agreements, construction and engineering contracts, partnering and collaboration agreements and consultancy agreements for energy projects and other major construction projects.

Martin advises a number of key wind and solar developer clients and has recently advised on the development and sale of the largest portfolio of solar sites in the UK and Scotland’s first consumer owned wind project.

Martin has also advised on a number of innovative renewable energy projects including the procurement and construction of a wind turbine/hydrogen fuel cell energy system, an exemplar tidal power project and Scotland’s first gas-to-grid Anaerobic Digestion project.  Martin received a Masters in Environmental Law and maintains a strong interest in the relationship between our built environment and the low carbon economy. He was recognised in the Legal 500 directory as a “next generation” partner for his renewable energy work. Martin also occasionally finds time for gigs, buying books that he never quite gets round to reading and occasional bursts of slow running.
