Douglas is a partner in the firm’s corporate department and head of the Data & Technology team, advising clients across all areas of Intellectual Property and IT law. He specialises in protecting trademarks, copyright, patents, designs, branding, know-how and database rights, alongside drafting and negotiating commercial agreements including SaaS contracts, software licences, R&D, agency, distribution and franchise agreements.

He also advises on data protection, freedom of information and cyber law, including UK GDPR compliance and digital governance issues such as Artificial Intelligence, and is certified by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Cyber Security.

Douglas’ practice extends to consumer protection, advertising, marketing and “passing off” issues,  as well as public procurement, where he is also accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. He supports public bodies in designing and running procurement exercises and advises private sector bidders, including on contentious matters.

He has extensive experience in litigation, acting in both the Court of Session and sheriff courts, and advising on competition law, including CMA investigations and merger clearance, providing clients with strategic, commercially focused solutions across complex corporate and regulatory challenges.
