Anderson Strathern announces new charity of the year – Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity

Every year, Anderson Strathern’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee opens a vote for employees to select a new charity to become the focus of our fundraising efforts for the following 12 months. We’re pleased to announce that our new chosen charity of the year is Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. This wonderful organisation is dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people in hospital care in Scotland.

In collaboration with NHS colleagues, who provide world-class medical treatment and care, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity endeavours to offer more than just medicine. By accelerating recovery, alleviating fear, and providing reassurance, and distraction at every juncture, ensuring that the patient experience is as positive and comforting as possible.

For the year 2023-2024, we proudly supported the ‘My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’. Our partnership with this remarkable organisation, founded by Doddie Weir, a former Scottish Rugby player diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) in 2016, allowed us to contribute significantly to their vital work.

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation tirelessly promotes research, raises awareness, and offers support for those affected by MND. Our fundraising efforts in 2023-24 resulted in a record-breaking total of £13,099.67, which directly contributed to the charity’s groundbreaking research and service provision for individuals living with MND. We’re immensely proud of this achievement and grateful to everyone who supported us in making a difference.

As we bid farewell to My Name’5 Doddie Foundation after a year of successful fundraising, we’re excited to embark on this new partnership with Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and continue our commitment to making a positive impact in our community.

Jane Rutherford, Anderson Strathern’s Head of Knowledge and Development and the head of our CSR committee, commented on our new charity of the year –

“Our people voted for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity as our charity of the year, impressed by its commitment to helping seriously ill children and young people with extra support during a hospital stay. Its work is inspiring and can be life-changing for those experiencing the challenge of ill health while young. We believe we can contribute to the charity’s fantastic work and look forward to the year ahead.”

Our Chair, Fraser Geddes, also expressed his enthusiasm about the new partnership, saying –

“Partnering with Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity fills us with a tremendous sense of pride, purpose and dedication. It’s a privilege to stand alongside such a vital organisation, supporting the wellbeing of children in need throughout the whole of Scotland. We are committed to raising awareness and crucial funds to ensure these young lives receive the care and support they deserve. By joining forces with Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, we aspire to make a tangible difference to the lives and futures of these children and their families.”

Kate Dixon, Corporate & Partnerships Lead at Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, said –

“We are so proud to have been chosen as Anderson Strathern’s charity partner, and we’re enormously grateful to the team for their dedication to helping seriously ill children and their families.

We work tirelessly all year round to provide young patients with the extra support they need when facing a life-changing hospital visit, but we can currently only reach 1 in 10 children who come through our doors. With Anderson Strathern as our partner, we hope to reach every child who needs support, and make a huge impact on so many more young lives. Together, anything is possible. We can’t wait to get started.”

Looking ahead, we’re eager to support the work of Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and build on the momentum of our previous fundraising efforts. Together, we believe we can make a meaningful difference and contribute to brighter futures for those in need.
