Solicitor/Senior Solicitor - Rural Land and Business

We have a vacancy for a Solicitor or Senior Solicitor (up to 4 years PQE) to join our Rural Land and Business Department based in our Edinburgh office.

Anderson Strathern is recognised as a market leader in the provision of specialist legal advice to the rural sector. Our strong and diverse client base provides the fee earning team in the Rural Land and Business (RLB) Department with a varied and challenging workload.

We have a vacancy for a Solicitor or Senior Solicitor to join our RLB Department based in our Edinburgh office. Different teams within the Department advise major clients, tailoring the skills and training of each individual to the project in question. The successful candidate will have sound commercial and property law skills commensurate with experience. The opportunity exists to expand those skills and develop specialist knowledge within a supportive team environment.

The role will involve

  • Processing instructions from our retained Estate and land owning clients including advising on residential, agricultural, sporting and commercial leases
  • Voluntary Registration of title of rural properties
  • Sales/purchases of estates, forestry, farms, country houses, steading conversions/plots and cottages
  • Security work for commercial lenders
  • Representing land owners in negotiations with utility companies
  • Actively participating in business development opportunities

What you will need to succeed

  • Scottish solicitor up to 4 years PQE
  • Committed to a career in the rural sector
  • Strong technical skills across the range of work
  • Good organisational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills
  • Accurate and concise in both written and verbal communication
  • Commercial and solutions orientated in your approach
  • Recognise and manage risk effectively
  • Deliver fee earning capability commensurate with experience

Team Expertise

The team has two specialists accredited in Agricultural Law by the Law Society of Scotland and regularly contributes to professional bodies representing the rural sector.  Practice head John Mitchell and Adele Nicol advise on agricultural tenancies on behalf of both tenants and landlords, and offer significant transactional experience, while other key team members include Anne ChapmanFiona GibbSheonagh Richards, and Robin Beattie.
