Payroll Adviser

We have an exciting role as Payroll Adviser to join our Finance Department in Edinburgh on a part time basis.

The role

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, this role will be working with our payroll bureau, our Finance team and our HR department.  The role holder has responsibility of ensuring the monthly payroll data from HR, is accurately uploaded, processed, reports are produced for the Finance department and the preparation of accurate payroll forecasts and budgets

You will be responsible for

  • Building and maintaining a good relationship with our external payroll provider
  • Working with our Finance department providing monthly and annual payroll reports and payroll analysis
  • Ensuring payroll records are correctly maintained and updated timeously
  • Updating payroll procedures as required and share any process changes with the HR and Finance teams
  • Ensuring monthly payroll reports are accurate and signed off appropriately
  • Maintaining standardised documentation for audit compliance to mitigate any potential risks
  • Ensuring statutory payments are correctly documented and processed in accordance with legislation
  • Being the main interface with the HR department on payroll and budgetary issues
  • Providing monthly payroll budget v actual cost analysis reports to the Finance Team
  • Preparation of monthly payroll forecasts and budgets
  • Ensuring that employees are paid on time
  • Preparing reconciliations between the payroll and the general ledger

What you will need to succeed

A solid understanding of reward and benefits – including managing a payroll system; understanding of tax, pension, SSP, SMP procedures, legislation and calculations

  • 2 years+ reward/payroll experience – ideally with a payroll qualification
  • Excellent IT skills – in particular Excel and formula
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Positive and flexible attitude in delivering to high standard in a busy environment
