The seamless service delivery by the Anderson Strathern Renewables team and their in-depth knowledge of the type of issues affecting renewable energy projects was instrumental to the successful delivery of the project. The innovative nature of the project meant that we required our legal team to not only provide a first class legal service but also to assist in the wider project management issues. I am delighted to say that Anderson Strathern delivered on both counts.
Derek Mitchell, Project Manager, The Hydrogen Office
Anderson Strathern is at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution.
The UK Government has set aggressive targets to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In turn, the Scottish Government has recognised that the most effective way to achieve this is by utilising renewable technology and has committed to generating 100% of Scotland's electricity from renewable sources by 2020. The Anderson Strathern renewables team was established to help our clients successfully capitalise on this move towards a low carbon economy.
We bring together a multi-disciplinary group of over 25 highly experienced lawyers with top tier legal expertise. It is crucial in such a dynamic and evolving sector as energy and renewables that clients receive practical advice from their lawyers. Our pro-active approach ensures that our clients can keep pace with market and regulatory developments and our fully integrated team provides our clients with a solid foundation for entering new markets, managing risk and for “future-proofing” their business model.
The team provides not only legal advice but also business and strategic counselling.
We specialise in providing legal services for our renewable energy clients across the full spectrum of technologies. We were involved in some of Scotland's earliest windfarm projects and have an acute understanding of the relevant legal issues. Our lawyers have advised on more than 100 onshore wind turbine and hydroelectric projects. Just as we were there at the birth of commercial wind energy in Scotland, we recently acted for The Crown Estate in the completion of Agreements for Lease for the world’s first commercial wave and tidal electricity project. In addition, we recently acted for the developer in a highly novel project for using renewable energy directly (both wind and ground source heat) when available, whilst storing surplus energy as hydrogen for a proportion of the project's needs for periods where renewables are unable to meet demand.
We have been involved in the exploitation of landfill gas to produce electricity and are also at the cutting edge of the legal framework for the development of biomass and coal bed methane.
We have advised some of the largest estates and farms in the UK on the benefits of renewable projects as part of a land use diversification strategy, helping them establish a valuable fixed income stream over a number of years.
We bring to bear considerable and highly skilled resources in areas of expertise such as property, planning, environmental, corporate, financial, procurement, construction and tax.
Whether you are a public sector organisation keen to generate profit, a supply chain engineer, an early-stage cleantech investor or a company on the verge of commercialising your renewable technology, our rapidly expanding renewable energy practice is well placed to advise you on both the issues and the opportunities open to you.
