Strategic Advice |
 |
 |
 |
Much of our work involves giving quick and effective strategic advice on aspects of planning and environmental law. Sometimes all that is required is an opinion. As well as having a free-standing client base of our own, we provide environmental support across the entire firm. In corporate mergers and acquisitions, we are often asked to give decisive opinions on a range of issues capable of stalling progress on a transaction. |

We may be asked to comment on the terms of existing planning permissions, on environmental matters such as contaminated land, on the prospects of obtaining planning permissions or on many other matters prior to the merger or acquisition taking place. |

In this the Planning and Environment group play a key role alongside the firm's Corporate and Commercial Property teams in carrying out what is essentially a pre-purchase "health check" on the target company.
We advise many of the firm's key clients on environment risk assessment and risk apportionment on a wide variety of corporate, property and financing transactions.
One of our key advantages is that our skills are underpinned by a deep understanding of the technical, operational and commercial environment in which our clients operate. Our advice on environmental and planning matters is always commercially driven and consistently seeks to meet our clients' overall business objectives.
Proposed or emerging legislation in this area is always a concern given its complex and technical nature. Our strength is bolstered by our close relationship with the firm's Parliamentary and Public Law Unit, who are able to provide up to date advice on legislative reform and so help us provide clients with tailored commercial advice. Such information is vital to providing sound advice on property development potential. Chambers' Guide to UK Law Firms 2006 noted that our team offered a "high level of strategic and commercial advice."
In addition, we often advise other solicitors and other relevant professions on developments in law and policy. We have also provided in-house training for clients.
