Private Legislation |
Private legislation is the means of authorising activities that are needed for some special purpose but would otherwise be illegal. In practice, such legislation has been used to authorise major infrastructure works, though the potential range of subjects open to the influence of private legislation is vast. |

For over a century, Scottish private legislation has been processed by the Scottish Office and at the Westminster Parliament. It is now the responsibility of Holyrood, and our expertise extends to this area also. |

With our colleagues in John Kennedy & Co, parliamentary agents at Westminster for over 100 years, we offer a market leading service to any organisation seeking to promote such legislation. We work closely with our colleagues in the Planning and Construction Units, which themselves have wide experience of these projects.
On the other side of the process, we are also able, with our colleagues in the Litigation Department, to advise those seeking to object to such a proposal. We ensure that their voice is heard at the heart of the legislative process.
