The European Convention on Human Rights establishes a set of rights for individuals and other bodies. These include the right to a private and family life, the right to enjoy one's own property and the right to a fair trial, plus many more. |

It is part of our role to ensure that our clients' human rights are upheld and also that clients do not inadvertently infringe the human rights of others.
Our cross-departmental Human Rights team brings together the skills of advisers from all sections of our firm to service a diverse array of clients on a broad range of topics. |

Our track record to date is exemplary. We have been involved in numerous important cases involving human rights issues. Of the first ten test cases on human rights following the introduction of the Scotland Act 1998 we were involved in seven. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of advice and have made human rights advice a specialism. Our human rights awareness covers the work we do for all clients whether their human rights are threatened or they are in danger of threatening those of others. We are always mindful of the human rights angle. Alastair McKie, Head of our Planning Unit, is recognised as an authority on human rights and planning law. Members of the Human Rights Team provide updates and information both within the firm and externally. This is done through seminars, training sessions, meetings with clients, or in any other appropriate format. We are very happy to discuss specific needs with individual clients.
