However, copyright cannot be claimed in just anything. There are particular requirements that an item must meet before copyright can be said to exist in it. Digital materials such as music CDs, software, e-books etc. are increasingly vulnerable to copying, to the dismay of the copyright owner. DRM is a relatively new area of work which deals with ensuring digital materials remain secure and cannot be unlawfully copied.
