Robert Maclean
Robert is a partner in our corporate group.
He has wide ranging and extensive experience in the fields of property structures (including both onshore and offshore joint ventures, unit trusts, and limited partnerships), development and investment finance, property development and investment transactions of all sizes.
Robert was formerly in-house counsel for the Stannifer Group of Companies (SGC). SGC was acquired by Chelsfield plc in March 2004 and formed part of the Chelsfield take private later that year; Robert played a key role in relation to both transactions.
Following the consortium acquisition of the larger Duelguide Group, he was appointed in August 2005 as a consultant in relation to certain key projects including the 825,000 sq ft mixed use development at High Wycombe involving dual offshore unit trust structures, loan facilities of c£190m and development agreement arrangements with the local Council.
Key highlights since returning to private practice with us in 2006 include:
- acting in the disposal to Hammerson PLC of the 500,000 sq ft retail led scheme at Union Square in Aberdeen
- taking the lead role in acting for Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) in its implementation of the Glasgow Airport Rail Link Act (including the acquisition of land pursuant to CPO powers) and dealing with the transfer of the project and statutory functions to Transport Scotland
- acting for the Keills Group in its management buyout of the property fund and asset management business from the Noble Group and continuing to act for Keills in relation to its ongoing asset management and property acquisition programme
- acting for Falkirk Council in relation to the proposed £175m regeneration of the Bo’ness Harbour and foreshore area
- acting for Pihl UK (Denmark’s most active international contracting company) in relation to its involvement in the Aberdeen 3Rs Schools project
- taking the lead role in connection with the firm’s recent appointment to the Scottish Enterprise framework panel and its appointment to the Scott Group of companies (Europe’s leading manufacturer of new and re-conditioned pallets)
Robert has also held positions as both director and secretary of a number of UK, joint venture and offshore companies and is dual qualified and admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.
