Sinead Riach is a Senior Solicitor in the firm's Parliamentary & Public Law Unit. She is responsible for advising clients on parliamentary procedure and monitors legislation in the Scottish, UK and European Parliaments. Her key roles include statutory interpretation and advising public bodies on founding legislation. She is also responsible for advising clients on the implications of legislation proceeding through Parliament, monitoring legislative and policy developments and providing guidance on how to engage with the parliamentary process.
Sinead is a member of the firm's cross-departmental legal team which provides legal services to promoters of major, high value, infrastructure projects in Scotland which require the authorisation of the Scottish Parliament. Her experience includes acting for the promoters of the Glasgow Airport Rail Link Bill, the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link Bill and the Waverley Railway Scotland Bill, on matters of parliamentary procedure and public law.
Sinead also provides specialist advice on all aspects of public law, including freedom of information, the Environmental Information Regulations, data protection, human rights, devolution issues, governance, public sector regulation and disclosure matters. She has a background in litigation and judicial review.
She frequently provides training and gives seminars to the public and private sector, particularly in the area of freedom of information and data protection. She holds a certificate in data protection and has recently developed a module on freedom of information, data protection, human rights and related legislation entitled 'Wider Legal Frameworks' for the University of Dundee's MSc in Records Management and Information Rights by Distance Learning. She has contributed articles for the press and the Scottish Human Rights Journal.
Sinead has a Masters degree in International and Comparative Law and has a keen interest in human rights, having worked at the United Nations in Geneva and New York.
Sinead is a member of the Association of Disciplinary and Regulatory Lawyers.
