Alun is the head of our Employment Unit and is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in employment law.
Alun deals with all aspects of employment law, contentious and non-contentious, and has designed his practice to include acting for both Employers and Employees. He has specific interests in the discrimination field and was involved in the first Disability Discrimination Act case in Scotland. He has been involved in a number of cases advising senior management in both commercial and public sector institutions in relation to internal and external inquiries including disciplinary hearings. He regularly assists other firms in providing specialist employment law advice to them and to their clients at times of crisis including the design of redundancy consultation and selection processes and TUPE acquisitions.
Alun has been involved in landmark cases testing the boundaries of human rights and other cutting edge issues including disability discrimination, legal aid in employment tribunals, and post Seymour-Smith cases in Scotland.
He appears regularly in Employment and Employment Appeals Tribunals and on the lecture circuit. He is registered as a mediator by CEDR and is keen to explore alternatives to adversarial dispute resolution.
Alun is a member of the Scottish Discrimination Law Association, he is on the combined Panel of Scottish Solicitors for the joint Equality Commissions and is a member of ELA, DLA and DDARap.
