Karyn Watt
Karyn is a partner in our Construction & Projects department.
She deals with construction and commercial work and is legal advisor to the National Specialist Contractors Council and their representative on the Scottish Building Contractors Committee.
Karyn is New York bar qualified, an accredited mediator, notary public, writer to the signet and accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in construction law.
She is also involved with the Scottish Government, on the PFI/PPP legal advisers team, regularly liaising with the Government and PUK on a number of PPP/PFI issues including health (on Hub amongst others) and education and has recently advised the Construction Cross Parliamentary Group on the Scottish Futures Trust and had an article published in the Scotsman on the topic. She sits on the SBCC drafting committee and regularly prepares reports and articles for them (and other bodies) and is advising on the ongoing “kilting” of all the new 2005 JTC suite of documents.
Karyn regularly advises on procurement, partnering, frameworking, PFI and PPP documentation, and FM contracts. She has had procurement advice articles published in various publications. In respect of procurement, Karyn has recently been advising strategically on EU and other procurement processes for high profile complex projects such as for Aberdeen Schools 3R’s Project, Moray Schools, Edinburgh Napier University, NTS, Edinburgh Zoo, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Borders Council, Stirling University and lectured on the same at a white paper seminar in March.
Having knowledge of both contentious and non-contentious issues makes Karyn a highly qualified drafter and adviser.
Karyn has prepared a variety of joint venture, supply-chain and development agreements for both the public and private sectors. She also acts as panel solicitor for various groups.
Karyn lectures both in-house and externally on construction, procurement and project law issues, including for the RICS.
