Scottish Independence Referendum - Legal and Regulatory Advice
2 May 2014
The Scottish Independence Referendum will take place on 18 September 2014.
We understand that people from all walks of life in Scotland, and further afield, will have an interest in the Referendum. Through the work of our Parliamentary and Public Law Unit and the many specialist lawyers across our legal practice areas, we can provide informed and strategic legal advice on the referendum and the opportunities and challenges that may be presented.
How we can help
Anderson Strathern’s solicitors provide legal and strategic advice to private companies, public bodies, not-for-profit organisations, individuals and families.
For the individual, there may be a desire to understand how the proposals for personal taxation under the status quo, independence or greater devolution will impact, whilst they are working or enjoying retirement in Scotland.
For a business, in addition to understanding the trading tax environment, there may be a desire to understand the proposals for currency, regulation and compliance.
For some public sector organisations which operate in Scotland or on a UK-wide basis, there may be a requirement to understand the mechanics of delivering their functions in an independent Scotland.
Through the work of our Parliamentary and Public Law Unit and the many specialist lawyers we have across all our legal practice areas, we are able to provide informed and strategic advice on the opportunities and challenges that may arise.
We are able to advise on sector-specific issues:
- Energy and renewables
- Insurance and Banking
- Public sector
- Food and drink
We can also advise on topic-specific issues:
- Pensions and employment
- Freedom of information and data protection
- Agriculture and fisheries
- Competition law
- Health and safety
- EU law
- Broadcasting and communications
