John Mitchell
John is a partner in our Land Resources department.
He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in agricultural law, specialising in the acquisition, disposal and lease of all types of rural property and rural business finance. John is also recognised as a 'Leader in their field' for Agriculture & Rural Affairs (Scotland) by law directory Chamber UK 2012.
He advises on agricultural law (including dispute resolution), development and diversification, minerals, alternative energy projects, telecommunication agreements and sporting and fishing rights.
He closely monitors legislative reform proposed by the Scottish Parliament, Westminster and the European Union to ensure he is best placed to give strategic advice to his clients on its potential impact.
His client base ranges from private individuals to major estate owners. He is secretary of the Scottish Agricultural Arbiters and Valuers Association.
From a farming background he brings a practical and informed approach to all his dealings. He also has a genuine understanding of the challenges facing rural land managers.
John graduated LLB (Hons) from Aberdeen University in 1993. He joined us as an associate in 2000 and was assumed as a partner in 2002.
